The KATU Engineering Department is typically staffed Monday through Friday. Weekend emergencies should be directed to the on-call engineer.

Starlink Instructions

Starlink Mini is a compact, portable kit that can easily fit in a backpack, designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet on the go.

Specifications can be found here.

Setup

  1. Plug USB-C cable into dish and power bank.
  2. Fold open dish stand and set on ground. General northern direction for best typical signal.
  3. After a couple of minutes, connect to the wifi with LiveU, phone, laptop, or other devices.

Note #1: Starlink recommends about 15 minutes for the satellite signal to become completely stable (given no overhead obstructions).

Note #2: Let the rack operator know you're coming up via Starlink. The backpack delay may need to be adjusted from the usual "1 second" to "5 seconds" or higher for good performance. You may need to let the producer know you're on an extended backpack delay as well. LiveU bandwidth limiting can be set to 4 Mbps for better performance as well.

Current Wifi Keys

Note: The wifi keys are on labels mounted directly to the bottom of the dish and on the inside of the top box cover.

Maintenance

  1. There is a 12v car adapter in the kit that can be used to charge the power bank or operate the dish directly.
  2. The Dell USB-C laptop AC charger can be used on the power bank to recharge them as well.

Bonus Points

  • When connected to the wifi, download the Starlink app from the iOS or Google Play Store. After launching the app, go into Align Starlink and then rotate the Mini to align it in the box provided on-screen.
